because of new terror fears. the state department is warning americans against travel there. >> they say there's a specific threat against the u.s. consulate in lahore, pakistan's second-largest city. abc's kristin fisher joining us on the latest details from overnight. >> reporter: diana, john, the key word is specific. this is a specific threat against the u.s. consulate in lahore, which is why only a handful of emergency personnel have been allowed to stay. all americans are now being urged to stay out of pakistan. this, as most u.s. diplomats in lahore were ordered out to islamabad. the state department says the evacuation is due to concerns about credible threat information specific to the u.s. consulate in lahore. according to a senior state department official, the threat is different from the one that forced the closure of 19 other diplomatic posts earlier this week. >> it's proven to protect lives. and it's certainly important to keep the terrorists from being able to carry out a truly

devastating attack. >> reporter: despite six u.s. drone strikes in yemen, u.s. officials believe this plot is still active and it reaches to the highest level of al qaeda. and those leaders are likely getting help from the nearly 2,000 prisoners who recently escaped from jails in iraq, libya and pakistan. >> it's possible they would be suicide bombers. it's possible they could become combatants. some may have capabilities in terms of bombmaking, which is always a concern. >> reporter: with so many u.s. embassies and consulates closed, intelligence officials are worried the terrorists will set their sights on a soft target, like a hotel. now, president obama is expected to address these threats at a white house press conference later today. his last day in washington before heading out to martha's vineyard for vacation. john? >> kristin fisher in washington, thanks very much. stay with abc news for the latest on the terror threat. we'll carry the president's news conference live from the white

house. after his news conference, the president meets with secretary of state john kerry. kerry is getting together today with his russian counterpart. the meeting comes two days after president obama canceled a summit meeting with president vladimir putin. the case of leaker edward snowden is on the agenda. another major story this morning. the threat of more flooding hanging over the center of the nation again today. >> right now, it's raining from texas to the northeast. and in missouri, rescue teams were out in full force, searching for friends and family members. here's abc's alex perez. >> reporter: it was a dramatic scene that had two tennessee parents in a panic. little lauren, rescued from her family's attic by firefighters. her father, in shock. >> next thing you know, we're in the attic, trying to get the baby upstairs. and it's hard. it's scary. you don't know what the water's going to do. so -- lose a home. >> reporter: firefighters wading through that chest-high water, clutching on to baby lauren's carrier to get her to safety.

>> it was emotional. you know, you see your baby. and she's a newborn. how are you going to do this? what are you going to do to get us out? >> reporter: across the nashville area, swollen creeks caused flash flooding, forcing some to the safety of their roofs. and leaving cars floating on streets. rescue teams fanned out, fighting the fast-moving waters, to get people out. not just tennessee. from arkansas, to missouri, the heavy rain is hammering the heartland. over six inches of rain in madison, tennessee, double what they see in a month. in wallace, kansas, eight inches. and the worst, richland, missouri, 17 inches this week. enough for an entire summer. and here in the nashville area, there is water still rushing through these swollen creeks. you can tell how one point here the water rose so high, it carried that debris and garbage can up to that bridge. usually, this creek is only about one to two feet deep. alex perez, abc news, nashville.

also happen right now, crews in southern california spent a second night battling that out-of-control wildfire east of los angeles. officials now say 26 homes have been destroyed. they expect the number to triple once they can see the damage firsthand. the fire was estimated at nearly 22-square miles with 20% containment. it is still growing. we'll have a live update on "good morning america." the search for a missing woman in oakland, california, has led police to a person of interest. they're combing through a fairgrounds after questioning a registered sex offender who dated sandra coke 22 years ago. he was spotted with her on sunday, the day she went missing. he has a long criminal history, that includes kidnapping and rape. and he was previously charged in two murders. >> we have not arrested this person in this case. but we are looking at this person as a person of interest. they have had history of dating. they are known to each other. >> coke is an investigator for the federal public defender's office. her family and friends have put up a $100,000 reward.

two college friends of suspected boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsaranev, face charges for throwing away fireworks and other items they found in tsaranev's dormroom before capture. if crickonvicted, they will spe0 years in prison. the atlantic hurricane season has been fairly quiet so far. but there may be busy months ahead. the forecast is calling for three to five major hurricanes over the next few months, with winds topping 110 miles per hour. still, forecasters have actually trimmed back the number of significant storms expected. they're now predicting six to nine hurricanes. now, to america's newest millionaires. we've learned overnight that 16 vehicle maintenance workers from south new jersey have one of those winning powerball tickets. >> a account official says they're hardworking people who showed up for work yesterday, perhaps knowing they had won. the minnesota winner wasted no

time coming forward to claim his share of $448 million. paul white is a divorced father of two. >> i feel the pressure off my shoulders that you carry every day for you. how am i going to pay for my kid to go to college. want to take care of them if they have health issues. all these things gone. don't have to worry about them again. it's amazing. >> white said he will take a lump sum which will amount to $58.3 million after taxes. despite the odds after a jackpot win, white said he daydreamed about how he would spend the winnings if he ever won. i don't think it's how terrible the odds are, everybody dreams of winning the lottery. >> it's a chance at a dream. i play every time it gets to $100 million. but $40 million isn't enough for some silly reason. >> i know. i never play unless it makes the news. >> i buy into the hype. >> right. it's out there, it's like $400 million.

stocks opening higher this morning after snapping a three-day freefall. the dow, nasdaq and s&p 500 all up yesterday on positive news about jobs. but investors are still nervous about when the fed could end that economic stimulus program. and taxpayers are getting a $10 billion check from fannie mae. that means the massive mortgage company has the paid back about 90% of its $117 billion bailout during the housing collapse. the new, huge profits from fannie mae are complicating the president's plan to do away with it and its counterpart, freddie mac. the ncaa is getting out of the business of selling jerseys and other school-specific merchandise. its official online store will stop selling the gear amid a lawsuit, where it's fighting several former and current

more torrential rain and flooding are in store for parts of colorado today. a slow-moving storm has dumped nearly three inches of rain in and around aurora. the downpour flooded streets in low-lying areas. and stranded people in their cars. drivers in the west can expect more slick roads on the morning commute, from new mexico, into wyoming. and a wed ride in the plains and the ohio valley. and thunderstorms drench much of the south and the northeast. >> if you're flying, delays are possible in atlanta, new orleans, memphis, d.c., philly and boston. the fbi has reopened a bizarre kidnapping case. >> it starts when an infant was kidnapped from a hospital. authorities thought they found that child in new jersey and reunited him with his parents. but now, genetic testing reveals they're not related at all.

abc's barbara walters spoke with fronczak. >> how do you feel when you see this picture? >> i want to find him, and hug him and make sure he's okay. >> fronczak says nothing would make him happier but to find the real paul. and find out what happened to him, as well. you can see much more of paul's story tonight on "20/20." a miami man charged with murdering his wife, allegedly posted a grisly photo of her bloody body on facebook. along with a confession. he turned himself in after that picture appeared on facebook and stayed up for more than five hours. it was also a post that said he was going to prison for killing his wife. he claimed his wife, jennifer alonzo, was abusing him. but friends say it was the other way around. and there's now an expanding manhunt this morning across the western u.s., for a kidnapping suspect that is also accused of murder. james dimaggio is suspected of kidnapping hannah anderson,

after setting his southern california house on fire, with the girl's mother and likely her young mother inside. an amber alert is in effect for california, oregon, washington and nevada. police say dimaggio may have apan donned his blue nissan with california plates. and it may be rigged with explosives. this man appeared at an accident sunday morning, as this young woman was fighting for her life. she had been trapped in the car for two hours. and she was asking for prayers. witnesses say the man was dressed like a catholic priest. and he seemed to come out of nowhere. >> he came up and approached the patient. and did offer a prayer. it was a catholic priest. he had anointing oil with him. >> and a sense of calmness come over her then. >> crews did finally manage to free the young woman. when they turned around, that man was gone. they are calling him a guardian angel. the mystery of how the shark got into the new york subway car may have been solved. a mom from brooklyn tells "the

met with an ex-boyfriend with a long criminal history before vanishing. kira? >> as you said we are in solano county fair grounds. the search began with great urge answer in the dark of night. the search for the 50-year-old sandra coke who disappeared on sunday. overnight, police were questioning a "person of interest" and we have a picture, 56-year-old registered sex offender in custody on an unrelated offense. he and sandra dated 20 years ago. it was with great urgency the search started at 8:30 last night and oakland police department major crimes investigative unit walked out of headquarters and came straight here to vallejo. crews were combing the fair grounds and the park for clues leading to coke. 50 search-and-rescue volunteers searched on
